This is Lang Lang, one of the most charismatic pianists performing today. In fact, his charisma, and the over-the-top flamboyance of pianists like him, was the subject of a piece on the New York Times yesterday. Basically, Bernie Holland says the classical music equivalent of shut up and play yer guitar. I think it might have something to do with changing performance styles and changing audience expectations. I don’t know. What do you think?
